THE LIFE & WORKS OF SALVADOR DALÍ
Adult Education for Continuous Learners
Salvador
Dalí is considered the greatest artist of the surrealist
art movement and one of the greatest art masters of the
twentieth century.
Salvador
Dalí and his artworks turned heads all over the western
industrialized world. His art and life brought with it a
profound and enlightening conscious reality, especially
to the advent-guard and hippy communities of the sixties
generation, that the “unconscious, dreamlike and weird”
are just as valid and have roles to play in our lives as
the “rational and mechanized” lifestyles that we have
all fallen victim.
His message continues to this day. Dalí’s ideas are the
precursors to abstract visions that we all see in rock
videos, films and other forms of media – that we just
take for granted.
Exploring the life and works of Salvador Dali brings
with it an understanding of Spanish culture. Because
Dali drew inspiration from the deep rooted Spanish past,
cultural traits and traditions can be understood more
clearly by the explorer.
Adult educator, artist and cultural activist Karla
Darocas, is offering her celebrated Spanish Art History
courses again. This time she is launching with the Life & Works of
Salvador Dalí. Other courses include the lives and
artworks of Pablo Picasso, Goya, Diego Velázquez and El
Greco.
The first course in the series includes a lecture on the
life, times and artworks of Salvador Dalí, course note,
a visual presentation of the progression of Dali’s
artworks and a coffee break.
According to former adult student Sue Coley, who took
Karla’s courses when they were offered in Javea, “Salvador
Dali has always been one of my favourite painters and I
was keen to learn all about the other great artists of
Spain such as Goya, El Greco and Velázquez.¨
The courses exceeded my expectations and were so
enjoyable. Karla made every painting come to life with
gossip and stories about the people in it and the
artists themselves. Every class made me excited about
going to the next one. I would thoroughly recommend them
to anyone. You will be fascinated, learn so much and
have fun at the same time, she adds.
