For
business people with products that can be shipped
locally, nationally or even internationally, Spain’s
postal service offers a really extraordinary service to
help you increase your sales. In Spanish it is called –
Reembolso and literally means “I refund you” – but in
English we would translate it to Cash-on-Delivery.
Unlike Britain, Spain’s postal service
offers a unique door-to-door personal delivery service
to you clients for very little extra in cost. In fact,
the consumer pays the added charge just to have this
personal service and direct payment plan convince. Not
everyone is comfortable with online payment systems like
PayPal, nor is everyone secure with putting their credit
cards into a website store or giving out their personal
details over the phone. There are so many obstacles to
getting people to part with their money. But here in
Spain, cash money is still king and its the transaction
currency of favor, so why not use it.
Personally, for my online business, which
sells health and beauty products made in Spain, 75% of
my Spanish clients are older women who wouldn’t know how
to use PayPal if their life depended on it. For these
clients, it is much easier to pick up the phone, call me
directly and have a little chat about my products and
easily order them over the phone. All I need is their
address and I can process their order on the same day or
next day – depending on when my village post office is
open. It is really an effortless procedure to procure
sales in a friendly comfortable way!
How does it work?
Once you have secured the order and
parceled it, you take it down to your local post office.
You tell the officer that you wish the order to be
shipped – “con Reembolso”. The officer will give you a
special Reembolso form to fill out that has your clients
delivery address, your address and the value of your
package, which needs to be collected as payment for the
products.
Next the postal officer will weigh your
package and tell you how much it will cost to ship –
plus the added “direct-delivery” charge for the personal
service.
The parcel will reach your client in good
time – depending the postal service shipping around all
the fiesta closure times, which drives me a bit crazy,
but my Spanish clients understand and it’s “no pasa
nada!”.
A postal worker will knock on your
clients’ door and in a friendly way hand over your
package and collect the cash is owed to you.
In a few days more, your local postal
worker will come to your door and hand over the money
payment from your client. We always make sure to give
our postal worker a bottle of wine to keep him in good
spirits as he has become a trust friend.
If
you would like to learn more about this service, you can
visit the Spanish postal service website – www.Correos.es
. If you look to the top right of page – you will see a
link that says – Productos A-Z. Once on this page –
scroll down to R – and find the link to REEMBOLSO
NACIONAL. Once on this page – if you look to the bottom
of the page, you will see a link that changes the page
to the English language. You can then check out the
areas in Spain and internationally that offer the
service. You can also learn about the payment plans,
logistics and delivery periods and rates and guarantees.
