CAREER BIOGRAPHY
Karla
started writing for her local newspaper in 1978. Her
editor assigned Karla to reporting on the Fashion
industry in Toronto, Canada.
1980 - She opened, owned
and operated a trendy
boutique and started her life as an entrepreneur.
By 1984, the economic recession crashed her business.
So, in that same year,
Karla signed up to attend the university in
Kitchener-Waterloo. While majoring in Fine Arts, Karla
continued her reporting skills by writing for her school
newspaper and the regional newspaper. She specialized in
documenting the regional music scene, as well as the
imported blues music culture.
It was a fun and memorable
adventure, and Karla was introduced to some really hard
working entrepreneurs and artists - who knew the meaning
of a "Hoodoo Lounge" and "Pop The Gator".
Upon graduation in 1990
from the University of Waterloo,
and with an interest in promoting "talent" and
helping people with computer problems, Karla
launched her first communications company. Zona
Communications and its many forms - radio show, gallery,
printed magazine, online magazine, teaching platforms - opened doors to opportunities, but also a new way of
thinking.
In 2000, Karla changed her
reporting and publishing style to include entrepreneurs and published
an online magazine to highlight these smart and talented
people.
This quest brought forth
interviews with inspiring entrepreneurs, talented
artists, inventors, educators, deal makers, CEO's, and
presidents - from all over the world!
She later sold that online
enterprise to a group of investors in California - where
she lived for a while until the tragic NY disaster of
2001 - and when her Spanish boyfriend
proposed, and the rest is history.
Today,
from her cyber-office on the coast of the Spanish Mediterranean
sea,
Karla continues to report on insightful and interesting
events, people and
issues that help entrepreneurs to thrive and survive.
Her favourite topics
include small business,
entrepreneurs, Spanish real estate market, Spanish food
and culture, Spanish art, Costa Blanca regional market economy
systems, Costa Blanca expats, general business tips,
marketing and website
tips, and health and wellness research.
She also continues to
teach educational skills that help entrepreneurs and
other friendly folks to utilize their computers and the
internet in order to achieve their goals.
Together, with her husband
Jose Darocas, they help their community of neighours, mostly
retired, to solve computer and internet problems. They also empower
their clients with plenty of computer, Internet and
business DIY tips, advice and
training.
The pair also run a small
property
real estate agency, focused on their community of Cumbre
del Sol and Benitachell. This is the website -
www.SpainLifestyle.com
Karla Darocas also offers
private tuition to adults wanting to learn how to paint
- specializing in fabric painting.
She holds an honours degree in Fine Arts and majored in the great artists of Spain, and did her
thesis on Spain's legendary film maker - Luis Buñuel.
