Welcome! I am Karla Darocas—fondly known by my collectors and community as The Crochet Queen.

My journey into the world of fibre art didn't begin in a factory or a corporate office. It began with a deep love for raw creativity, a passion for Spanish heritage, and a refusal to accept the rushed, disposable nature of modern fast fashion.

I believe that in a world dominated by mass production, true luxury lies in the things that take time.

Every piece that leaves my studio is a labour of pure intention. When you hold a KARLA Darocas design, you are holding a physical capsule of time and dedication.

Meticulous Craftsmanship: I do not believe in shortcuts. My signature BOHO Chic crossbody bags require 24 hours of dedicated artisan labour, blending complex high-tension crochet, intricate hand-beading, and precision hand-sewing.
Pure, Conscious Materials: Your skin and our planet deserve the absolute best. That is why I work exclusively with 100% certified organic cotton, grown ecologically under the warm sun of Southern Spain.
One-of-a-Kind Soul: Because I hand-select rare, upcycled vintage beads for my Royal Friendship Necklaces, no two pieces are ever identical. Every creation carries its own unique fingerprint.

Why I Do What I Do

I have been an artist all my life. Over the years, I explored the beautiful worlds of painting and ceramics. I loved them both deeply, but I always felt restricted by the boundaries of a stationary studio; neither medium was truly portable.

That was when I returned to something native. I have been crocheting since I was just five years old, and stepping back into this craft completely liberated my creativity.

Now, my studio travels with me wherever I go. Crochet allows me to create the exact moment inspiration strikes, transforming fine Spanish yarn and rare beads into beautiful, practical, and highly useful art. I create for the conscious individual who appreciates the soulful beauty of slow, handmade treasures.

These bags and crocheted goodies, designed and handmade by Karla, are not just for the moment; they truly withstand the tests of time. I seem to have acquired a small collection of these beloved items that date back to the early 90s. Even the older pieces don't feel dated; they are just what they are: little purses, waistcoats, water bottle carriers, hairbands—all useful, all one-of-a-kind, made and designed by Karla. It always amazes me how, from her imagination, without patterns, she works out how to produce something both creative and technical.

The latest addition is a dinky zipped black bag, which I just love. Adorned with kitsch sequined lip and lipstick patches, it at first seems perfect for a makeup bag, but it is far too sweet not to be seen and is perfectly glamorous enough to take out and about. It's just roomy enough to stash the mobile phone and keys, ready to rock and roll with its 1950s vibe. Not only does it look good, but it is also tactile and light. With a little bit of care, all these handmade items become heritage pieces.

I see my niece taking a keen interest in all these crocheted things, valuing their uniqueness, but I am not passing them on to her yet.

Knowing that they are not mass-produced also makes these items so much more personal as gifts for someone with a little more character, who enjoys something outside of the mainstream.

It will lift anyone's spirits again and again, especially your own!

Last holiday I went to Moraira in Spain for the 2nd time. After a few days I went surfing on Facebook and by chance ended up on the Facebook group Moraira Connect. After I became a member I came across an advertisement from Karla Darocas, she offered a beautiful handmade bag with black pearls. I immediately fell in love and decided to step out of my comfort zone and respond that I would like to buy this bag. As a souvenir of the holiday and that I would have something special instead of the tourist bags. After we had spoken back and forth via messenger we made an appointment at a local breakfast restaurant.

The next day I went to the restaurant with my husband and son and met a friendly woman there. Loaded with a large self-made bag she showed me various items and the bag I had chosen. After I had bought some items and had a nice conversation I went home again.

When I got home I had saw another bag that she had just finished and another one and decided to make a second appointment. Another nice conversation and during this conversation I said that the pearls of 1 bag went inside every time. Without hesitation she offered to repair it and make the bag. After I bought 2 more bags we went home.

The next day was our last day and I went to pick up my bag. She not only had my bag but also quickly made a headband as a gift, this was a really sweet gesture.

I am so happy with my bags and bracelets and that I got to meet you 😘. I will definitely come back next time.
